Relatives of TMC MP Yusuf Pathan Arrested Following Violent Assault Over Puddle Splashing Incident in Mumbai
Three relatives of TMC MP Yusuf Pathan, including his father-in-law Khalid Khan and brother-in-law Umarshad Khan, have been arrested in Mumbai for a violent assault in Byculla. The attack, sparked by a car splashing water on Shoaib Khan, left two victims seriously injured. Police recovered baseball bats and bamboo sticks used in the assault, which is now being prosecuted under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The conflict intensified further after Yusuf Khan returned home and was urged by his family to report the matter to the authorities. While en route to the police station, they encountered Khalid Khan, also known as Makaliq, who is identified as Pathan’s father-in-law. According to investigators, Khalid was accompanied by his thirty-five-year-old son, Umarshad Khan, as well as Shoaib Khan and another accused individual named Shehbaz Pathan. This group engaged in a fresh and more violent confrontation with Yusuf Khan and his relatives. Police allege that the accused targeted the victims with bamboo sticks and baseball bats, resulting in severe physical trauma. During the attack, Yusuf Khan’s brother, Salman, suffered a fractured arm, while his uncle, Zaki Ahmed, sustained serious injuries.
Following the violent outbreak, police apprehended three of the accused, including Pathan’s father-in-law, while a manhunt remains active for the fourth suspect. A formal case has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, specifically sections 118(2), 115(2), 324, 352, 351(2), and 3(5). The arrested individuals were subsequently produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody. Authorities confirmed that the arrests were substantiated by a combination of CCTV footage, eyewitness testimonies, and the physical recovery of the weapons—bamboo sticks and baseball bats—allegedly employed during the assault. This high-profile incident has drawn significant attention to the conduct of the MP’s extended family and the swift legal repercussions following the street-level violence in Mumbai.
